What is a Cron Expression?

A cron expression is a string of five fields representing a schedule for automated tasks in Unix-like systems. The five fields are: minute (0-59), hour (0-23), day of month (1-31), month (1-12), and day of week (0-6, where 0 is Sunday). Special characters include * (any value), / (step values), - (ranges), and , (lists). Cron expressions are widely used in Linux crontab, Kubernetes CronJobs, AWS CloudWatch Events, GitHub Actions, and many other scheduling systems. Our free online cron expression generator helps you build, validate, and understand cron schedules visually.
