About WHOIS Lookup

WHOIS is a protocol for querying domain registration data including ownership, expiration, and contact information. Modern WHOIS lookups use RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol), the structured JSON-based successor. This tool queries public RDAP servers directly from your browser — your queries are not logged, cached, or stored on our side. Use it to check when a domain expires, who registered it, its authoritative nameservers, and whether DNSSEC is enabled.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is WHOIS?
WHOIS is a standard protocol used to query databases that store domain registration information such as the owner, registrar, creation date, expiration date, and nameservers.
What is RDAP and how is it different from WHOIS?
RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the modern replacement for WHOIS. It returns structured JSON, supports internationalization, and is more suitable for automated tools. This tool uses RDAP under the hood.
Is my query logged?
This tool forwards your query directly from your browser to rdap.org — we do not log, cache, or store queries on our servers. The RDAP server itself may log requests per its own policy.
Why do some fields show "—" or nothing?
GDPR and privacy regulations cause many registrars to redact personal contact information. The domain may still be valid even if registrant details are hidden.
Can I look up non-.com TLDs?
Yes. RDAP supports most gTLDs (com, org, net, io, dev, etc.) and many ccTLDs. Some ccTLDs with restrictive registries may return partial data.
